A Beginner’s Guide to Chelsea Art Galleries

New York is unrivaled when it comes to the arts. Well known within the art community, but less explored by tourists, the Chelsea art galleries are equally compelling. These works may eventually find their way into the Met or MoMA, but we recommend seeing them here first.

David Zwirner Gallery

This Chelsea art gallery has become famous in recent years for its Infinity Mirror Rooms exhibit by artist Yayoi Kusama. David Zwirner represents an impressive roster of international contemporary artists, including William Eggleston, Jeff Koons, and Richard Serra.

Gagosian Gallery

There’s no doubt that Larry Gagosian is one of the biggest names in the art world. Head to the massive 20,000-square-foot Gagosian Gallery for familiar artist names as well. Since launching in 1999 with a Richard Serra show, the gallery has exhibited work by Andy Warhol, Julian Schnabel, and Damien Hirst.

Gladstone Gallery

Gladstone Gallery may focus on the conceptual, the philosophical, and the daring, but works at this Chelsea art gallery are strictly blue-chip.  Very likely to rise in value, these artists are likely to become the next big name in the art world.
