Fall in the northeastern US — is there a better place in the world to spend autumn? From the vibrant colors of the changing leaves to cooler temperatures, fall is the best time to explore the region, whether by car or train. We started off in Philadelphia, New York’s neighbor to the south. Now we’re uncovering the best things to do this autumn in the Big Apple.
Why spend fall in New York?
Everywhere you go in New York, you’ll be looking upward in awe. From the arts to architecture, shopping to shows, New York is the trendsetting city that has it all. When the summer temperatures drop and the tourists empty out, fall in New York has become one of the best seasons of the year to visit for urban wanderers to business and family travelers and all who fall in between.
Ride the NYC Ferry
It used to be that visitors to New York only took taxis. Then they started taking the subway. Now there’s an even better way to travel — on the East River. A new fleet of NYC ferries will shuttle you from Midtown to the Financial District to Brooklyn, where you can zip around to the best places to visit while taking in the amazing skyline views. (Need to take a taxi? Learn how to travel by taxi like a New Yorker.)
Take in the Skyline Views
Speaking of skyline views, there are plenty of great observation decks (Empire State Building, One World Trade Center) but why not take in the views like a New Yorker — from one of the city’s best rooftop bars. From Bar SixtyFive in Midtown (the city’s highest bar) to the art-focused Roof at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to Eataly in the Flatiron District, there is no shortage of bars with a view.
What to Eat in New York
Culinary Director Jon Beatty of Lexington Brass at Hotel 48LEX is constantly elevating the menu to create new, authentic dining experiences. And with a central location in Midtown, in the heart of Manhattan, it’s easy to zip around to the best places to eat. Consider checking out the classic New York City restaurants in Midtown, which never disappoint, or some of Jon’s favorites — the cold fried chicken at Momofuku Ko and the peking duck at Red Farm.
Turn a Spa Day into a Spa Night
Plenty of people head into the city for a NYC spa experience. Why not get it without ever leaving your hotel room? Plan an indulgent night in when you Mix + Mask at Hotel 48LEX, with name-brand skin care, snacks from Dean + Deluca, and craft cocktails.
From Lexington Brass to the legendary P.J. Clarke’s, the famous Ess-a-Bagels to the freeing relaxation of Bryant Park, new heights at the Top of the Rock to new clothes at Bloomingdale’s, so many of New York’s iconic experiences are located right here in Midtown. Our central location makes it easy to explore well-heeled uptown and cool downtown (and Brooklyn), but the best of New York is just minutes from our doors.
